About Me

Introduction

Hi, my name is Koki Kakiichi. Currently I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA. The groue webpage is found at here. I am also a former member of the Project First Light at University College London, UK.

I would like to consider myself as an observationally-oriented theorist working on extragalactic astrophysics, with a focus on understanding the nature of high-redshift galaxies, the intergalactic medium, and the Epoch of Reionization. I enjoy working at the interface between theory and observation, and studying complex extragalactic phenomena where the physics of radiative transfer (or more fashionably, radiation hydrodynamics!) plays an important role in both controlling the astrophysics of phenomena themselves and interpreting the observations. For more details about my research, please click here.

I completed my PhD at Max-Planck Institute for Astrophysics, Germany, and studied physics and astronomy at the University of Edinburgh, UK, for Master degree and undergraduate study. Even before, I was studying chemistry at Suzuka National College of Technology, Japan. I grew up in the region called 'Mie' in Japan, then jumped to Europe for astrophysics. My full CV is found below.

Aside from astrophysics and cosmology, I am a big fan of snowboard/ski touring. After I moved to Munich, the beauty of the Alps brought me into rock climbing and triathlons.
