Boy, is my face red. Caught out nicely.... My posting on reception of
Communion on multiple occasions on the same day has been corrected by
readers. The information enclosed from them is included below.

>
>Actually paragraph 1388 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church states.
>"It is keeping with the very meaning of the Eucharist that the faithful,
>if they have the required dispositions, 'receive communion each time'
>they participate in the Mass."
>
>Also, the Code of Canon Law Canon 917 states. "A person who has received
>the Most Holy Eucharist may receive again on the same day only during
>the celebration of the Eucharist in which the person participates, with
>due regard for the prescription of Canon 921 Section 2." This canon
>deals with people in danger of death.
>
>Finally, the Bishops Committee on the Liturgy Newsletter dated February,
>1988.
>
>"Q. Whether according to Canon 917, a member of the faithful who has
>already received te Holy Eucharist can on the same day receive it only
>one more time or as many times as he or she participates in a
>eucharistic celebration.
>
>R. In the affirmative to the first part; in the negative to the second,
>(Decision made on 26 June 1984; publication ordered by Pope John Paul II
>on 11 July 1984.
>
>Comment. Canon 917 as translated by the Canon Law Society of America,
>states 'A person who has received the Most Holy Eucharist may receive
>again on the same day only during the celebration of the Eucharist in
>which the person participates, with due regard for the prescription of
>Canon 921 Section 2.' The authentic interpretation of the Pontifical
>Committee makes it clear that at only one other celebration at which a
>person participates on a given day may he or she receive Communion.
>Nevertheless, a person who has already received Communion once (or even
>twice) on the same day is urged to receive again in the form of Viaticum
>if he or she comes to be in danger of death (canon 921, par 2).
