Dear Wayne,
Archbishop Fulton Sheen in every talk would recommend a holy hour
everyday, consisting of Mass and Holy Communion, followed by
extended prayer in the presence of Jesus Christ truly present in
the tabernacle, the whole to fill up least one complete hour. I
recommend this as a powerful means to know God's will in your
life.
Besides prayer -- insistent and prolonged thoughtful reading of
the Bible, especially the gospels, brings you to know Jesus
Christ and to be at ease in friendship with him. Verses of
scripture will often come alive to you, when you need them, if
you are making yourself daily more and more familiar with God's
written word.
Saint Maximilian Kolbe trained himself to turn interiorly many
times a day to the Mother of God and ask her, "Mother, what shall
I do now? What shall I say now to this person I'm dealing with?"
Blessed Peter Faber was very much aware of his own guardian angel
and would often pray for guidance to him.
The Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola with their rules for
discernment of spirits are not a self-help book. They are for
the guidance of spiritual directors and retreat masters.
I will pray for you that God will guide you to a knowledge of his
will for you.
Sincerely in Christ,
Father Mateo
