Notes (from 5H):
After the lovely 'Long Road' opener, the band just tears through the first few
songs with no breaks. 'Elderly Woman' goes out to the "highest people in
Florida" (referencing how someone told him that the top of the lawn is the
highest peak in FL). 'Untitled' is extended and modified - quite lovely. Ed
uses the mirror to reflect light into the crowd during '1/2 Full.' During
'SOL&T,' Ed sees a fan with a cell phone, he obtains it and sings a bit of the
song into the cell. He sticks it in his pocket like he is going to keep it but
tosses it back to the owner eventually. A powerful 'Alive' is dedicated to
cancer survivor, Nick, who had lost his hair due to chemotherapy, but now has a
thick head of curly hair.
After 'Last Exit,' Ed notes someone holding up a flag and says, "This song's
for the flag," leading to a slow, sweet 'Patriot.' A "USA" chant starts up and
Ed responds, "I hear ya brother ... 'USA'. USA, it's a great fuckin' country,
right? I used to work midnight shift security guard; Matt used to work at
Kinkos. ... I'd say one of the greatest thing about it is you have the right to
express your opinion, no matter what it is ... It's not Pizza Huts and Walmarts
on every fuckin' corner. And the fact that our president, who I love ... here's
a fact for you ... my opinion ..." and he talks about how the young soldiers
aren't getting paid shit while the government is working on getting tax breaks
for the rich. "I'm calling bullshit on that. All right, enough of that,"
leading to 'Better Man,' tagged at the end with: "President Bush, President
Bush, Dick Cheney, Colin Powell ... don't let us dowwwnnnnnnn!"
Introduced with, "All right, here's one we haven't played for fuckin ages,"
'Glorified G' is resurrected from the vault after nearly seven years. Ed
changes the 'DTE' lyrics to "I keep fucking it up so I'll soon be fired." Very
cool show and crowd.
