Notes (from 5H):
A very chatty evening, and just when you thought Stone Gossard couldn't top the fashion parade, he takes the stage tonight in the famous plaid pants and a very natty cream-colored (with leopard accents) cowboy hat. (NOT kidding.) Another very Stoney evening. "How is everyone... hi. How's everyone in the back is what we really want to know.. do you still like Seattle back there? Beautiful night for a concert. Be careful up there." Ed greets us after 'Dissident' (it was pouring rain up until PJ took the stage). 'Wishlist' is dedicated to "Uncle John, who taught me everything I knew up until age 14, which is quite a bit, if you think about it...then my Uncle Fred, he taught me how to smoke pot, and I forgot everything Uncle John taught me... no, it was good stuff that got me through to that age, so thank you."
Ed takes the Rickenbacker and introduces 'Timeless Melody' as a song taught to them by Matt Cameron in Barcelona. "This next one is called 'Gutter Punks and Whiskey'," introduces a cranking 'Even Flow,' with such a dynamic solo by Mike that Stone stands there laughing and shaking his head. Ed gets the words to both 'Wishlist' and 'Even Flow' tonight, but the jury is still out as to what he sang for the first three lines of 'Lukin.'
A small political speech begins the encore: "We've never thought it was our place to suggest who to vote for, but in this case - fuck it. You should vote for Ralph Nader." Ed mentions that tomorrow's show is the 10th anniversary of the first Pearl Jam show, "not that it's a big deal or anything ... so 10 years ago tonight we were in a basement drinking beer ... Rainier beer, right?" 'Yellow Ledbetter' is tagged with both 'Ain't Talkin' Bout Love' and 'Eruption' by Van Halen.
