Notes (from 5H):
Highlights from the first set include the audience singing the high notes at
the end of 'Black' and an outstanding 'RVM' with an excellent solo by Mike. In
fact, Mike is very much alive, running around like crazy with his flying V,
throwing poses and grinning.
The encores are stunning, with them returning and Ed saying, "I don't know what
it is about this town, but it's always been very good to this band." He wishes
that it could be Jeff's birthday again, referring to the show they gave on
Jeff's birthday in Hamburg in 1992. (He seems to reference this every time they
play in Germany.) The crowd starts singing 'Happy Birthday' (misunderstanding
and thinking it IS Jeff's birthday) with Ed joining in. The band members hug
Jeff and congratulate him. Ed continues by saying that since it is such a
special occasion, they will do a song they haven't done in a long time, leading
to a lovely 'Crazy Mary.' Ed says the next song is a song for dancers ('Soldier
of Love'), leading to 'DTE', what Ed also says is a song for dancers.
After an amazing 'Baba O'Riley,' the band leaves the stage while Ed is taking
photos of the crowd, takes a photo of himself and tosses the polaroid into the
audience. The crowd doesn't stop shouting for more so Ed tells the crew to get
the rest of the guys back onto the stage. The lights are turned on and a full
band version of 'YL' is the last song of this wonderful and magic evening.
