Resolving the FIR background: Latest results from the UK Sub-Millimetre
Survey and deep ISO surveys
Stephen Serjeant (ICSTM)
We present an overview of the UK sub-millimetre survey and selected
ISO surveys. Our deep confusion-limited SCUBA image in the HDF has
resoved most of the FIR background at 850um, and we discuss the HDF
identification from the IRAM of the brightest source. Our
complementary ongoing wide-area survey has all sources sufficiently
bright for IRAM IDs, and we present preliminary results from this
survey. We also present a fluctuation analysis of the ISOHDF-N to
demonstrate that the source counts flatten sufficiently for the 15um
extragalactic background to converge at 2.5+/-0.5
nW/m2/sr. We will also present a cross correlation of
SCUBA-HDF with ISO-HDF; at time of writing this has no significant
signal, in contradiction with the expectation of some authors that a
large fraction of SCUBA-HDF galaxies lie at z<1. On the other hand,
the SCUBA-HDF fluctuations do correlate significantly with the
positions of luminous Lyman drop-out galaxies.
