The X-ray evolution of clusters of galaxies at high redshift from WARPS

Laurence Jones (Birmingham)

The evolution with redshift of the X-ray properties of the galaxy cluster population can provide strong cosmological constraints. The Wide Angle ROSAT Pointed Survey (WARPS) currently contains over 100 groups and clusters of galaxies serendipitously selected from ROSAT X-ray pointed data. Spectroscopically confirmed redshifts range currently range from z=0.05 to z=0.83. We present the X-ray luminosity function as a function of redshift and discuss some of the unusual objects: a high redshift, luminous cluster and `fossil' galaxy groups at low redshift.
