The Leicester Database and Archive Service (LEDAS)

Keith Sohl (Leicester)

The Leicester Database and Archive Service (LEDAS) is run by the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester. The LEDAS provides a national on-line astronomical database and archive service, dealing mainly with data from high energy astrophysics missions, but including dozens of astronomical catalogues from ground-based observations and other space missions. The archives supported include data from the ASCA, Einstein, EXOSAT, Ginga and ROSAT satellites. The LEDAS is also the location of the UK Chandra Science WWW site which was previously only available directly from SAO. After the launch of Chandra in July of this year the LEDAS will be hosting the UK Chandra Public Data Archive, a mirror of the high level products from the Chandra public archive at SAO.

This poster describes the main components of the LEDAS on-line services, including the dedicated database node, ledas@star.le.ac.uk, and the World Wide Web services accessible from the LEDAS site at http://ledas-www.star.le.ac.uk/

In addition, we draw the attention of the UK astronomical community to the the UK ASCA public data archive. The ASCA archive contains all data which have been released to the public domain from observations in the PV and guest observer phases of the mission. The UK archive is based upon the ASCA public data archive held at the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC) at Goddard Space Flight Center, USA. Users of the ASCA archive in the UK are recommended to use this version to take advantage of faster data transfer rates and to avoid the transatlantic data charges now imposed by UKERNA on British academic institutions.
