XSPEC: progress and plans
Keith Arnaud (GSFC)
I describe the current status and future plans for the developement of
the XSPEC X-ray spectral fitting program. This program has become the
world standard for the analysis of X-ray spectra and is used on data
from all the current missions. Current developement is focussed on the
needs of the new missions to be launched in the next couple of years.
Among the topics discussed are fitting statistics, global optimization
methods, improved models, a rewrite of part of the code in C++, and
the development of a graphical user interface. An opportunity for
feedback is provided.
