Small-scale coronal events as seen from TRACE

Clare Parnell (St. Andrews)

Over the past year TRACE has supplied us with the highest resolution data of the corona. It has a spatial resolution of 1 arcsecond and a temporal resolution as high as 15s. Using these superb data it has been possible to investigate certain small scale events in more detail than ever before.

The frequency and distribution of nanoflare type events in the quiet corona have been determine, in particular with respect to their heating potential. Also a particular coronal bright points has been studied as it evolves from it birth to its eventual explosive demise. An explanation of how it is heating will be given as will an explanation for the structures it evolves through.
