The nature of the faint radio galaxy population
Carlotta Gruppioni (Bologna)
I review the radio and optical properties of the population of
sources detected at sub-mJy level in deep radio surveys.
Spectroscopic identification results from recent observational
programs aimed at understanding the nature of the sub-mJy and
microJy radio objects are presented, together with an estimate
of the local radio luminosity function at 1.4 GHz. Constraints on
the evolution, the redsfhit distribution and the contribution
to the source counts of different classes of objects are also discussed.
