3C36: COSMOLOGY AND EXTRAGALACTIC ASTRONOMY
-
The Cosmic Baryon Budget
(M. Fukugita, C.J. Hogan, P.J.E. Peebles, ApJ, 503, 518, 1998).
Counts all "observed" baryonic material; finds Omega(B) = 0.021, in agreement
with the nucleosynthesis-derived value.
-
Globular Clusters and the Age of the Universe
(B. Chaboyer, P. Demarque, P. Kernan, L.M. Krauss, ApJ, 494, 96, 1998).
Uses Hipparcos data to estimate the ages of the oldest globular clusters,
finding 11.5+/-1.3 Gyr -- younger than the universe (phew!)
-
Observational Evidence from Supernovae for an Accelerating Universe
and a Cosmological Constant
(A.G. Riess et al., AJ, 116, 1009, 1998)
One of the first cosmological applications of observations of high-z
supernova.
-
Towards a refined cosmic concordance model: Joint 11-parameter
constraints from the cosmic microwave background and large-scale
structure
(M. Tegmark, M. Zaldarriaga, A.J. Hamilton, Phys Rev D 63, 3007, 2001)
Combines various constraints to derive `best bet' values for
cosmological parameters.
