Dear Brian,

What is your authority for alleging that some eastern Catholic
Churches do not allow kneeling at all? I have spoken to a
parishioner of a local Byzantine Catholic parish, who tells me
that they do not kneel on Sundays, but they do kneel on other days
of the week. My efforts to call our Ethiopian Catholic pastor in
town have been unsuccessful.

In any case, kneeling at the Consecration in the Novus Ordo Latin
Mass is certainly a "norm", to use your word, and is specifically
ordered in the General/instruction of the Roman Missal #21: "They
(the congregation) should kneel at the Consecration."

At the June, 1995 meeting of the U.S. Bishops, a motion was
introduced to ALLOW (not MANDATE) standing at the Consecration. It
awakened so much opposition that the motion was withdrawn (CREDO,
issue of August, 1995).

I have written several messages on this topic, which I invite you
to read. They are:

Date User Subject
1) 06-30-1995 Gregg Baumgartner kneeling at Consecration 1 & 2
2) 08-05-1995 Rita Starceski church etiquetter 1 & 2
3) 09-20-1995 Brad Kaiser obedience and the GRIM 1,2 & 3

Sincerely in Christ,
Father Mateo
